Instructions

  • Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, oil (or butter), and egg.
  • Mix batter: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined—do not overmix.
  • Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Cool & serve: Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with butter, honey, or alongside your favorite dish.
